Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan
In 2019, the Town of Lillington was awarded a grant from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), Division of Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation (DBPT), to develop the Town of Lillington Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. With the help of a consultant, the plan was intended to analyze and make recommendations for bicycle and pedestrian facilities and programs in Lillington. Such a plan promotes health and wellbeing of citizens by providing safe areas to recreate and travel.
With the aid of a Steering Committee and community input, this plan identifies and offers bold solutions to barriers that prevent citizens from walking and biking. Lillington currently has 6.35 miles of existing sidewalks and 4.2 miles of existing trails. This plan looks at how those can be improved through access, infrastructure updates, and extension so that residents and visitors can better utilize them.
